There is no place like home, and Greth Homes’ goal as a custom home builder is to design
your home in Allentown, PA with the right combination of entertainment areas and personal sanctuaries, outdoor playing and indoor relaxing, and a flawless combination of function
and beauty – a home that will cater to all your needs.
As you get ready to purchase your new custom home in Lehigh County, the first step will be to decide what size home you need. Many of us go house-hunting because we need more space. The chances are good that you’ll live in your new home for at least a few years. But, if you can think beyond your current space needs and plan for the future, your Greth Home could be the last new home you ever need to buy!
Many young people look for larger homes because they have a growing family. When you consider the size home you need, think about how you’ll accommodate children, whether you have them now or not. Will your children be able to share a room? Is there adequate room for them to play (indoors and outdoors)? Even if you don’t need a child’s bedroom at the moment, consider the flexibility that even one extra room can provide. Use it as an office or guest room until the babies arrive!
As your children grow up and move out, you may be considering a smaller home. Building small is economical, but can cost in other ways. If your house is too small, you might have too little storage space, too little room to entertain friends and family, no space for hobbies, and you may feel like you’re living on top of each other. Of course, you could choose a home with an extra bedroom for more flexibility, and use it as your office until the kids come to visit.
Do you love to entertain? If you host dinner parties on a regular basis, you’ll need a larger kitchen and more space to comfortably accommodate your guests. If you rarely entertain, you may find less space adequate. If Grandma comes to visit every summer, will you need an extra room for her, or can you get away with a sleeper sofa? If, on the other hand, there are elderly relatives who live with you or might need to in the future, planning ahead can avoid future headaches. A Greth floorplan with dual-Master Suites could be the perfect solution.
As you’re “right-sizing” your new home, think about special hobbies you have or things you own that will require a dedicated space, such as a home office, a workout room, an art studio, or space for a pool table or piano. Family members with disabilities may need special accommodations as well.
Consider your lifestyle when deciding the size home you need. Do you travel often? A smaller home may be perfect. Do you eat out most of the time? An extra-large kitchen and dining area may be a waste of space. Does your life revolve around pets? Big dogs need big yards. If you can’t afford a big yard, consider buying a home with more square footage so Spot and Fluffy will have room to play indoors.
